Verse Veil

Hide His word in your heart.

Verse Veil helps you memorize Bible verses, and keep them. Read a verse, veil it a few words at a time, and rebuild it from memory, by tapping the words or saying them out loud. Then a short review on the right days keeps it for good. Any verse in the Bible, a Home Screen widget that turns every glance into practice, and no account, ads or subscription.

Reading isn’t remembering

There’s a verse that stopped you once. Maybe you underlined it, or wrote it on a card for the fridge. Ask yourself today how it goes, and you’ll likely remember that it mattered, roughly where it is, and a few of its words.

That isn’t a lack of faith or discipline. It’s how memory works. We keep what we try to recall, not what we read, and we keep it longest when we recall it again just before it fades.

Verse Veil is built on those two ideas. It hides a verse a few words at a time until you can say all of it, then brings it back on the days you’re about to forget. A few quiet minutes, and the words are yours: hidden in your heart, as the psalmist put it.

How it works

  1. Read it. Start with the whole verse in front of you. Read it through, slowly.
  2. Veil it. Slide to hide it a few words at a time, and say it from memory. Hold the verse to peek whenever you need to.
  3. Rebuild it. Tap the missing words back in order, or say the verse out loud and watch each word lift as you say it, through three rounds: Half Veil, Full Veil and Blank Page. Stuck? A hint shows the first letters, then the next word.
  4. Keep it. A learned verse comes back for a short review the next day, then after three days, a week, two weeks, a month, two months and four months. Recall it cleanly and it waits longer; stumble and it comes back sooner.

Small things that help

  • Any verse in the Bible. Search by reference, like “Psalm 23”, or by a few words you remember. The World English Bible, the Berean Standard Bible, the King James Version and the Korean 개역한글 are all inside the app, so it works offline.
  • Say it out loud. Switch from the word tiles to your voice at any time, even mid-round. Your speech is understood right on your device, after a one-time download of the speech model, and nothing you say is saved.
  • In English and Korean. The app follows your device’s language, and starts on the 개역한글 in Korean.
  • Verses by theme. Fifteen topics, from Peace and Hope to Strength & Courage and Forgiveness, plus a set of popular verses to begin with. Add a whole topic to your queue in one tap.
  • A widget that teaches. Put your verse on the Home Screen with a few words veiled, and every glance becomes a small recall.
  • Your pace. One verse at a time whenever you’re ready, or one, two or three new verses a week.
  • One gentle reminder. At most one a day, and only when a verse is waiting.
  • A forgiving streak. It counts the days you practice and allows a rest day each week.
  • Made to be read. Scripture set in serif or sans serif, in light and dark mode, on iPhone and iPad.
  • Yours, quietly. No account, no ads, no subscription. Your verses and progress stay on your device.

Requires iOS 18.6 or later. Voice practice needs iOS 26 or later, and isn’t available on every device.

Support

If something isn’t working, or you have a question or an idea, email me at [email protected]. I read and answer every message myself.

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the apps jiggle. Tap Edit, then Add Widget. Search for Verse Veil, choose a size, and tap Add Widget.

I missed a few days. Did I lose my verses?

No. Reviews you missed simply wait for you, most overdue first, and never more than ten in a day.

Can I switch translations?

Yes, in Settings or from the Library, between the World English Bible, the Berean Standard Bible, the King James Version and the Korean 개역한글. Every verse follows the translation you choose, including the ones you’ve already learned.

How do I practice by voice?

During a game, tap the microphone in the switch above the word tiles, and say the verse. Each word lifts as you say it. The first time, Verse Veil downloads the speech model for your Bible’s language and asks for the microphone. Voice practice needs iOS 26 or later, and isn’t available on every device.

Is Verse Veil in Korean?

Yes. It follows your device’s language, English or Korean, and starts on the 개역한글 in Korean.

How do I start over?

Choose Reset VerseVeil at the bottom of Settings. It erases your verses, progress, streak, reminder and settings, and can’t be undone.

Changelog

1.2

  • Practice by voice. Switch from the word tiles to the microphone, say the verse, and each word lifts as you say it. Your speech is understood right on your device, and nothing you say is saved. It works in learning sessions and reviews, in English and Korean, on iOS 26 or later.
  • A word you skip or say wrong turns gray and counts as a slip once you carry on, and a pause of a few seconds shows the next word’s first letter.
  • Long verses fit better. The word tiles get the room they need, the verse scrolls to keep your place in view, and soft fades show when there’s more to scroll.

1.1

  • The Berean Standard Bible, a modern English Bible, the closest to the ESV and NIV.
  • The Korean Revised Version (개역한글, 1961). Book names and references are in Korean, and search takes Korean names, short forms like 요 3:16, and English names.
  • The whole app in Korean, from the first screen to the widget and reminders, when your device is in Korean.

1.0 — Initial release

  • Read a verse, veil it a few words at a time, and rebuild it in three rounds: Half Veil, Full Veil and Blank Page.
  • Reviews on the right days, from the next day out to four months.
  • Any verse in the World English Bible or the King James Version, fifteen topics, and a queue.
  • A Home Screen widget, one gentle reminder a day, and a streak that forgives a day of rest.

Effective October 13, 2026

Verse Veil is an iPhone and iPad app for memorizing Bible verses. It is made by Igor Putina, an independent developer based in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

In short

What you memorize is between you and God. Your verses, your progress and your settings stay on your device, and there is no account. To learn which parts of the app actually help people keep their verses, Verse Veil sends a few anonymous usage statistics, such as “a verse was learned”, to Google Analytics for Firebase. They never include which verses, what you search for, or anything that identifies you. They are never used for advertising, and Verse Veil never tracks you across other companies’ apps or websites. You can turn them off at any time in Settings › Privacy.

What stays on your device

Everything you do in the app: the verses you add, learn and review, your queue, your progress and review schedule, your streak, your reminder time and your settings. None of it is sent to me or to anyone else. Like any app’s data, it is included in your device backups, under your own iCloud or computer backup settings. Reset VerseVeil in Settings erases it from the app, and so does deleting the app.

The daily reminder, if you turn it on, is scheduled by iOS on your device. The Home Screen widget reads your current verse from the app on your device.

If you practice by voice, Verse Veil uses the microphone only while you’re saying a verse. Your speech is turned into words on your device, by a speech model from Apple that you download once. The audio and the words you say are never saved, and never sent to me or to anyone else.

The anonymous usage statistics

Verse Veil records that a few moments happened, so I can see, in aggregate, whether people finish their first verse, come back for reviews, or find the widget. These are:

  • opening the app, including from the widget or a reminder;
  • finishing the welcome steps, and whether the first verse was learned or skipped;
  • opening a topic in the Library, such as “Peace”;
  • starting a search, but never what you searched for;
  • adding verses to your queue, and how many, but never which;
  • starting a learning session, and starting the word game;
  • learning a verse, but never which one;
  • finishing a review, and how many stars it earned, but never which verse;
  • for the word game and reviews, whether you tapped the words or said them out loud, but never what you said;
  • whether a widget is on your Home Screen, whether the daily reminder is on, and which Bible translation you’ve chosen.

Along with them, Google Analytics automatically collects basic technical details: a random identifier for this installation of the app, the app and iOS version, the device model, your language, an approximate location such as your country (worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not log or store), and when and for how long the app is used.

The statistics never include your name, email address or Apple Account; the verses you learn or their text; what you type or search for; your precise location; your contacts or photos; or any advertising identifier. Verse Veil uses a version of the Firebase SDK that cannot read the advertising identifier (IDFA), and it also turns off the device’s vendor identifier (IDFV), ad personalization, ad storage and ad network registration. It never asks for permission to track you, because it doesn’t.

Google processes these statistics on my behalf, as a service provider, under the Google Analytics Terms of Service and Google’s data processing terms, and may do so on servers in the United States and other countries. I have turned off Google signals and the setting that lets Google use this data for its own products and services. Event data is kept for two months and then deleted. You can read how Google handles it in Google’s Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

I use the statistics only to understand how the app is used and to make it better, which is my legitimate interest; the data is limited to the moments above, and you can switch it off at any time. I do not sell or share personal information, including as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and I don’t use it for advertising.

Your choices

  • Turn the statistics off: Settings › Privacy › Share Anonymous Usage. Nothing more is sent from that moment on.
  • Start fresh: Reset VerseVeil in Settings erases your data on the device and resets the random installation identifier, so new statistics can’t be connected with earlier ones.

Purchases

Verse Veil is sold through the App Store. Apple processes your payment and your Apple Account under Apple’s Privacy Policy. I never receive your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details, only aggregated sales reports, such as how many copies were sold in each country.

Information Apple may share with developers

If you have turned on Share with App Developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with the developers of the apps you use, including me. Apple decides what these contain, and you can turn the setting off at any time. I use anything I receive this way only to find and fix problems.

If you contact me

If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. I use it only to reply and to help with your request. I don’t add you to any mailing list or share your message with anyone, and I’ll delete it whenever you ask.

Children

Verse Veil is suitable for all ages but isn’t directed at children under 13. The usage statistics contain nothing that identifies anyone, of any age. If you believe a child has sent me personal information by email, write to me and I will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, the data protection law of the Republic of Moldova and US state privacy laws give you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent. Because the statistics aren’t linked to you, I usually can’t find the ones that came from your device, but you can stop them at any time with Share Anonymous Usage and reset them with Reset VerseVeil. For anything else, write to me and I will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live, or in Moldova to the National Center for Personal Data Protection.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new effective date. I will not start collecting anything beyond what is described here without first updating this policy and the app’s App Store privacy label, and asking for your consent where the law requires it.

License

Effective October 13, 2026

In short

Verse Veil is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement. A few extra terms below cover what’s specific to Verse Veil. The Bible texts inside the app are in the public domain, so you’re free to share them as widely as you like.

1. Apple’s Standard EULA

Verse Veil, including its updates, widget and documentation (the “App”), is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). For the App, the “Application Provider” and “Licensor” under the Standard EULA is Igor Putina (the “Developer”). The Standard EULA sets out, among other things, how you may use the App, what you may not do with it, the disclaimer of warranties, the limits of the Developer’s liability, termination and the governing law.

The terms below (the “Additional Terms”) supplement the Standard EULA and don’t replace it. If they conflict, the Standard EULA prevails. By downloading, installing or using the App, you agree to the Standard EULA and to these Additional Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the App.

2. Scripture

The Bible texts in the App are in the public domain: the World English Bible, the Berean Standard Bible and the King James Version, as published by eBible.org, and the Korean Revised Version (개역한글, 1961), from Wikisource through the CrossWire Bible Society. Nothing in the Standard EULA or these Additional Terms limits what you may do with them. They are provided as published, and the Developer doesn’t guarantee that they are complete, free of errors, or identical to other editions.

3. A tool for memorizing

The App helps you memorize and review text. Its topics, verse selections and review schedule are a starting point, not religious, theological, pastoral, medical or other professional advice, and they don’t endorse any particular interpretation. How you read, understand and apply Scripture is your own. The Developer doesn’t promise any particular result from using the App.

4. Your data

Your verses, progress and settings are stored only on your device. The Developer has no copy and can’t restore them. Deleting the App, choosing Reset VerseVeil, losing or resetting your device, or restoring it from a backup can erase them, and keeping backups is your responsibility. The Privacy Policy explains what the App collects and why.

5. Reminders, the widget and voice practice

Reminders and the Home Screen widget depend on iOS and your device settings. iOS decides when and whether a reminder is shown and when a widget refreshes, so the Developer can’t guarantee that either will appear on time, or at all. Voice practice depends on the speech recognition built into iOS, which isn’t available on every device or in every language, and can mishear words.

6. Ownership

The App is licensed, not sold. Apart from the public domain Bible texts, the Developer keeps all rights in the App, including the Verse Veil name, its design, code, illustrations, and its selection and arrangement of verses and topics. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved. Apple, iPhone and iPad are trademarks of Apple Inc.

7. Feedback

If you send an idea, suggestion or other feedback about the App, the Developer may use it freely, without any obligation or payment to you.

8. Changes, updates and support

The Developer may change, suspend or discontinue the App or any of its features at any time, and isn’t obliged to provide updates, maintenance or support. Updates are covered by the Standard EULA and these Additional Terms unless they come with their own terms.

9. Your responsibility

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Developer against any claims, losses, damages and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from your breach of the Standard EULA or these Additional Terms, or from your unlawful use of the App.

10. Your rights as a consumer

Nothing in the Standard EULA or these Additional Terms excludes or limits any right you have as a consumer that can’t be excluded or limited by contract under the law of the country where you live.

11. Changes to these terms

The Developer may update these Additional Terms. The new version will be published here with a new effective date, and continuing to use the App after an update means you accept it. Apple may update the Standard EULA, and its current version applies.

12. General

The Standard EULA, these Additional Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and the Developer about the App. Apple isn’t a party to these Additional Terms and has no responsibility for them. If any part of these Additional Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. A failure to enforce any part is not a waiver.
